Lab Introduction

Dr. Nebu George Thomas is a Professor in Periodontics and the Scientist in Charge of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine Lab at Pushpagiri Research Centre. With over fourteen years of experience as a senior consultant in regenerative periodontal surgery and dental implantology, he specializes in designing scaffolds for tissue engineering applications and conducting preclinical analyses to assess the safety and regenerative potential of these scaffolds.

Our research focuses on developing novel biomaterials with enhanced tissue regeneration capabilities, aiming for cost-effective and sustainable solutions to chronic diseases and trauma. We are investigating the use of bio ceramics, natural and synthetic biomaterials known for its non-toxicity and superior tissue regeneration potential, as a means to improve treatment outcomes. Our innovative project involves creating a 3D printed nanocomposite scaffold that integrates osteoinductive, antibacterial properties, and biomimetic properties aimed towards periodontal, bone and soft tissue regeneration. This scaffold is designed to be economically viable and biocompatible, providing a promising option for regenerative surgical procedures. We plan to patent our findings and publish our work to share insights with the scientific and medical communities. Ultimately, our goal is to develop translatable therapies for tissue regeneration, minimizing side effects and promoting sustainable treatment regimens.
